A historic landmark built in 1904, the Lake Bluff Train Station is the starting point for many who commute the 30 miles to Chicago on Metra’s Union Pacific North Line. The addition of the murals make the inside of the station as beautiful as it is comfortable and welcoming. These murals were created to stimulate a curiosity and respect for the arts while fostering an appreciation of our local history and natural environment.
One mural, painted by Skip Wiese, commemorates the tradition, fun, history and patriotism of the Village’s 4th of July Parade, the first of which was held in 1895.
The other mural, painted by Sandie Bacon, highlights the natural beauty of Lake Bluff’s waterfront and shoreline, and features many species of native plants and animals. This mural’s beauty shows appreciation for these unique ecosystems and encourages their conservation.
